Today, we want to discuss the relationship between two superpowers, China and the United States, when China's Age is on the way. Some may argue it is already China's Age. We disagree, as China's new international order has not been set up. China still has a long way to go before it can influence the world like the US. There have been many events recently showing China's quick rise to America's dismay. On September 10, National Review published an article titled "New Chinese Ambassador Snaps at the US: Please Shut Up." It is a shocking title, indeed. The former Chinese Ambassador to the US, Cui Tiankai, was friendly and gentle. He deliberately maintained a low key when dealing with disputes and challenges between his country and Washington DC. The new Chinese Ambassador, Qin Gang, is more aggressive. We believe there should be a translation mistake. The expression "shut up" should be rephrased as "keep silence." He looks like a gentleman and should have been more composed than the former soviet union leader, Khrushchev, who allegedly knocked the desk with the leather shoe at the UN General Assembly in 1960. By the way, there is a shocking similarity between Khrushchev and former US President Donald Trump. And the leather shoe Khrushchev used to bang the desk with was from an Arabic representative who had been sleeping like Trump's opponent.
Please note the above story is one version of the anecdote only, and Khrushchev's son, a US citizen now, already debunked the allegation, saying his father had not done that. Also, there are many other versions of the story, and we do not want to judge which one is more trustworthy. If you want to express your opinions, please share them with other viewers in the comments section. Let us continue with today's topic: the relationship between the US and China. As we said earlier, it is not China's Age yet. However, it is not America's Age anymore. The world will have two leaders at the same time. This dual leadership is different from that between the US and the USSR before the collapse of the former Soviet Union. The former Soviet Union and previous socialist countries formed a separate economic system, and they had no close economic interaction with western countries. That is why the west could blockade the Soviets and East European nations without worrying about the damage to their own economies. China is different. Western countries have substantially entangled and intertwined with China, and Chinese companies have woven an economic net enclosing the whole planet.
As the number 1 trade partner of more than 120 countries, China is almost unbeatable. The quick rise of China is not based on military expansion, and it is the most astonishing part of the country's success. In the past 500 years, for all world powers, from Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, British, French, Germans, Japanese, Russians to Americans, their glories were based on other nations' miseries. China is a world power now, and it is regaining its prestigious glory lost two hundred years ago. Unlike previous world powers, it has spent every penny on bettering its nationals in the past decades. It built nearly one million bridges across various rivers in its mainland territory and extended roads to every village. Its rockets send satellites and space stations to the outer sky instead of dropping bombs on other countries. Since it opened itself to the world in the 1980s, the country has grown into a behemoth both militarily and economically. Four decades ago, China's economy was similar to India's. India's GDP in 2020 was 3 trillion US dollars, which accounts for slightly over one-fifth of that in China. The Chinese government is formidable. We believe it is more potent than all previous Chinese Dynasties, including the Tang and Han. In the early 1960s, hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions, died of starvation, and no one opposed the Chinese government. It was unbelievable, as many dynasties in ancient China were overthrown by hungry peasants, like the Ming Dynasty in 1644.
Many people in China and abroad blamed Chairman Mao for the political movements between the 1950s and 1970s and intentionally ignored his contributions. In 1949, China was no better than today's Syria. Chairman Mao and his followers started to build China from scratch. Take the Yellow River as an example. It is called China's mother river and the cradle of Chinese civilization. However, it was not caring for a mum at all before the CPC led millions of peasants to fix the flooding problem that had haunted China for thousands of years. In addition, countless irrigation tunnels and ditches were constructed to divert the ferocious water in the Yellow River to millions of acres of farmlands. In the past seven decades, the Yellow River has become an actual mother river of China, breastfeeding hundreds of millions of Chinese. China also laid a solid foundation in other areas before the 1980s. Chinese should thank Mister Deng Xiaoping for reforming and reframing China. Still, they should not neglect the achievements of Chairman Mao and other leaders before the opening up and reform in the early 1980s. Even for the cultural revolution, which was a nightmare for the Chinese nation, both physically, mentally, and culturally, it helped break the feudal bondage that had limited the Chinese people for over two thousand years.
China used to be hierarchical, and it was more stringent than India's caste system. Without Chairman Mao's radical movements, the Chinese people could not have a life like today. We agree that some crimes in the cultural revolution were horrifying, and millions of innocent people were wronged and tortured. It must not happen again. People nowadays are worried about President Xi Jinping for his unprecedented control over the country. We think he will not become the second Chairman Mao, although it seems he has got more power than Chairman Mao, who had to launch a cultural revolution to defeat his opponents. President Xi Jinping has intentionally kept his relatives and family members out of the political circle, so the country is not controlled by one family like North Korea. Most likely, his successor will have no blood relationship with him. It is a little ironic that an influential father matters more than anything else in democratic countries like the US and Canada. Most Canadians would be thrilled if Trudeau's father were not Canada's prime minister, which is true with George Bush Junior as well. Of course, we admit North Korea is better than the US and Canada at keeping national leaders within one family. China is lucky, as the leaders it has chosen are all competent than most of their counterparts in other countries. Even Mister Jiang Zemin, who has been stigmatized by the Falun Cult worldwide, was a great leader, making China stand out in 20 years together with his successor, Mister Hu Jintao. President Xi Jinping's success results from the concerted efforts of previous Chinese leaders and their hardworking nationals. He is destined to make a difference in China's history.
Since the first opium war, China has never been so assertive and confident. No Chinese could believe that US President Joe Biden worked overtime and called his Chinese counterpart at 10 PM, US local time when the sun was shedding its light over China. US politicians and military keep creating troubles for Joe Biden by sending destroyers and air forces to the South China Sea. Many netizens wonder when the Chinese navy can patrol US waters. It came true on August 30, 2021. The US cost guard spotted Four Chinese Warships near Alaska. They deleted the photos shortly, however. It seems the US does not want the world to know the Chinese destroyers are also capable of long-distance travel. When talking with President Xi Jinping, Joe Biden stressed Americans stick to the one-China policy for the second time in 7 months. Half a year ago, he told the world that he understood China's resolution to keep its sovereignty intact. The Taiwan issue is China's red line. The US military kept provoking China in the Taiwan Strait, however. China was very angry when the US was pondering a proposal of adding the word "Taiwan" before the name of a Taipei office in the United States. Beijing is very sensitive. It demands any foreign entity having a connexion with China to admit Taiwan is a part of China. Despite overwhelming criticism and unwillingness, China never gives in. According to a report from VOA on September 11, 2021, Moody's and Fitch recently changed Taiwan's name to Taiwan, China. A Reuters report shows Taiwan was very angry with Fitch Ratings for calling Taiwan as part of China.
